Another urban myth concerning the bucket seating on the R-62s. The reason that the buckets were so small was that with slightly larger door openings than older IRT cars, the seating area was slightly smaller so to provide the same number of seats as the older cars had, the MTA specified the smaller seats even though it was only on paper. For some reason the MTA insisted on retaining the bucket seat design instead of keeping the bench seating which it eventually returned to on the NTTs. |
