Fine, fixed barriers are virtually free in terms of capital cost when compared to platform screen doors I wasn't arguing that point. Fixed platform edge barrriers are still going to put the same stop location restrictions so many foamers here claim will bring the system to its knees if they install platform screen doors. I was not comparing PSDs with fixed platform edge barriers, but rather fixed platform edge barriers with the status quo.Installing fixed platform edge barriers does virtually nothing to stop someone determined to get another person or themselves the track area from carrying through on their action. They do not allow the station to be heated or air conditioned. They do not reduce the trash blown into the track area in any meaningful way. They do not present a surface on which advertising can be placed. Instead, they provide all the inconvenience of a platform screen door with virtually none of the benefit. Just because it's cheap to install doesn't make it a good idea. |
