How do we know that we are not dead? The brain has a habit of blocking extremely traumatic experiences from our conscious memory, so maybe the world did end, and this is merely an echo of past events our brain is filling our minds with in the final seconds of our existence. Dreams, which sometimes feel like they are hours long, actually take place in seconds. So we could all be living out an Inception(the movie)-like event before dying.
