In the not-inconceivably-distant past, both parties were open to a wide range of ideologies; you could actually find a handful of (relatively) liberal Republicans in major offices in decades gone by.As of fairly recently, though, the Republican party has successfully purged itself of even moderate conservatives (at least on the federal level); the Republican party is now so uniformly crazy and destructive that it's hardly irrational to hate it as such. Sure, one member might focus on misogyny, while another focuses on creationism, while another tries to kill the poor, but every Republican advocates policies fundamentally anathema to the stability of the country and the interests of at least 99% of its inhabitants. And the idea that hating a fixed group defined by birth (race, national origin, etc) is somehow comparable to hating a fluid group defined by ideology and advocacy, whose membership is strictly voluntary on that basis, is simply ridiculous. |
