I heard about this very sad news just yesterday from his son. Joe was a very close personal friend of mine. He was a kind generous man that you had to get to know. He gave so much of his life to this hobby. His contributions were endless- books, bus calenders, photographs, badges, models, and his knowledge, this was his life. His love for the PCC car was endless-especially the "Silver Sightseer". He often vacationed to Europe bringing back many photgraphs and stories that I would enjoy listning to. As a young boy Joe always dreamed of operating a subway car and that dream came to pass just a few years ago after was hired and "qualified" as a NYCT motorman passing all the requirements and tests at the age of 67, a feat I could probably never do. He was truly unstoppable surpassing many other candidates much younger and stronger than he- ten fold. His favorite modern day subway car was of course the R32 (old reliable) just like Joe. I will sincerley miss you my friend and this hobby will miss you as well- God Bless you Joseph P. Saitta or as you would have it in your book "me-joe" for there will never be another like you.! RIP
