"large sums of suspicious cash"

I've always wondered about that one. Why is carrying cash "suspicious" anyway? No law regulates the amount or type of cash one may have in their possession. This concept of "suspicious cash" has been used to "legally" rob people--particularly in small towns--for years. The cops confiscate the money as "drug proceeds", in the absence of any evidence whatsoever to prove the suspected source of the cash. Cash, in and of itself, is not an indicator of a crime, nor is having lots of cash on you a crime in itself. I once sold a car for cash, and was taking the train home with about $2000 on me. Does that make me a drug dealer?
