My guess you rode them towards the end, when they were in shit condition. The ones used in the Metro North era were third hand models which probably suffered from significant deferred maintenance in the Conrail era.I talked to someone who rode them on the Port Jervis line in 1988 and said the A/C worked, but the interior smelled of gasoline (he probably didn't realize it was diesel). |
