The Beijing subway system is extremely reliable. The high-speed train ride from Beijing South to Tianjin South was similar to an airplane ride, but far more comfortable. Tianjin South station is a long way from the city center, in the middle of nowhere. Beijing South station has 22 tracks, and a very spacious concourse. The Tianjin subway system has three lines. Due to a construction accident, one line has a gap, and runs in two parts. Tianjin subway line 9 runs mostly on the surface, and it serves the newly developing area of Binhai. Line 9 is operated by Binhai Mass Transit, known as BMT(!). My hotel room in Binhai overlooks line 9. |
