Those 22s were unique in several ways. They were the first cars (other than the 10 A/C R-17s) to have the salmon colored fiberglass seats that became the standard for several car contracts. The design of the weather stripping around the side doors was similar to all subsequent NYCTA equipment. The Bulkhead door window was a single drop sash similar to the R-10 side windows rather than the split window of the older cars and the doors had a rigidized pattern in the metal. When I saw them, I figured that the R-26s would be like that but unfortunately that wasn't the case and the R-22s were the last TA car contract to have an openable bulkhead door window. |
