How feasible is closing Main St crossing, Mineola? Every time I go through there, even during the height of the rush hour, I never see a long line backed up.Urban Ave: Bond St bridge School St: nothing can be done here due to truck traffic Willis Ave: nothing can really be done here Main St: close New Hyde Pk Rd: Underpass South 12 St: pedestrian overpass Covert Ave: Overpass? One of the reasons that most of the community opposition you hear comes from New Hyde Park and Floral Park is that NHP/Merillon have a 50 min westbound gap (1 hour if you only count NYP trains) in the AM peak during which time the expresses from the far-out stations take priority over local service. As for how many trains are scheduled to use the line...there are 46 westbounds per morning rush hour combined west of Mineola. Add to that 10 eastbounds and several deadheads, and you got a mess. That's 14 average TPH through there, the actual TPH during the peak of the peak is higher. |
