While NIMBY-ism was new then, opposition to Els was not. The Third Avenue El (Manhattan) had jusrt been torn down, and deomlition of the Fulton St line from Rockaway Ave to Broadway Junction was probably underway at this time.The entusiasm for building a new El, even a one-track job on a commercial street, was probably VERY limited... |
