In contrast, I'm in that weird bridge where my French is above basic phrases, but because I rarely use it, it sounds unnatural and stilted with poor tense choices and conjugations. It's exacerbated by my last name and ethnic background which makes up a majority of Montreal's black population. So the presumption is that I'm a local even after I open my mouth.Although, it was funny to call STM, and push "Eight" for English* and keep getting French. It wasn't as funny on the third try while roaming on Verizon Wireless. *Similar to "Ocho" for Spanish in the States. |
