I remember hearing at one time that in New Mexico, English and Spanish were both official languages. According to Wikipedia, the original state constitution required all laws to be in both English and Spanish, although the term "official language" wasn't actually used. The state courts are still largely bilingual, although the requirement for laws to be published in Spanish is apparently no longer in effect. And the state song, designated in 1995, has a title that is part English, part Spanish. Quite a different approach from Arizona. |
