Just before you reach 76th Street, Pitkin drops in elevation about 30 or 50 feet, and so the tunnels must go down hill. Go down hill, but where?

Water Problems he says? No kidding! That was the original route of the Hudson River (before the last ice age), so yes, there would be water problems down there as well as unstable soil etc.

And if you do not believe your LION, then I suggest you just go and Google yourself "Hudson Canyon" and see just what you come up with. Besides a canyon that happens to be much larger than the Grand Canyon.
