The newest ones, built just after the war, were actually the first to go..Those eight cars (889-896) were oddballs on several fronts. 1-The only Reading MU's to have oil cooled transformers which means PCB issues made them a problem. 2-The only standard cars to have 4 traction motors & were built to be bride & groom sets with trailers modified at Reading Shops from steam coaches. 3-The only RDG MU's built with one cab. 4-The only American Car & Foundary built passenger equipment RDG ever bought. |
