The newest ones, built just after the war, were actually the first to go.The last MP54's running (the E6 subclass) were built as steam coaches in the 1910's, into MU cars not until 1950, gone by the early 1980's. Their traction motor did not hum. The E5's also started in the teens, ran until the late 1970's on the Conrail WAS-BAL locals |
