I have always suspected that there was some work performed on the station when construction resumed on it at the end of WWII which accounts for the station shel as being described as having the S/B station wall partially tiled. That would seem to indicate that TR's comment about no further work being done past 1942 is a bit inaccurate. There was an extremely corrupt city administration in place after WWII and while this is the first I am hearing about non union labor being used, I think that there was some sort of underhanded operation going on that necessitated a cover up that exists to this day. |
