If it were not for the graffiti problem, the blue stripes would probably not have been removed. In fact, the R-32s through 40s probably would have ultimately received blue stripes as well. I have seen artists' renderings of R-62s and 68s which shows both car classes with blue stripes as well. Since it was easier to remove graffiti from plain unpainted stainless steel, the MTA made the decision to eliminate any sort of color from all NYCT equipment. |
