great catch on the film of the inspection shed.it probably was abandoned when corona yard was opened in 1927.i,m guessing it was used for storage by the lirr/prr untill it was no longer needed.item 2:the tunnel connection is still there,it was built over several times over the years.there is a written account by E.J.Quinby,founder of the ERA of going to belmont racetrack via the flatbush conn.with mr.belmont & company.the mineola was a powered car,it didn`t need to be hauled by Hi-v`s or anything else.later on in years belmont placed a composite car behind it in case of a rear end collision.remember, belmont sat on the board of directors of the lirr[iirc,he was a vice president]I never heard of the movable platform or the concrete platform.there is no evidense of it thru my own personal research.I.E:.well over 10 years ago I belly crawled under the irt conn. to the lirr bumper block.I don`t see why the "block" would have stopped operations.can you publish these notes? In the orignal opening of the irt to flatbush station booklet which I have seen it states that on june 25th of the same year a"special train of irt cars"was to make a run from city hall to Jamaica station"via the conn.on lirr tracks.in the orignal 1904 lirr tower at flat bush terminal it showed both the e/b & w/b track conn.into the irt. on the model boardI,m curious to know why art huneke never mentioned this or took a photo of it.thanks for a good post.my times up[library p.c.]talk soon.
