Hi all,

A good friend has asked me a question (in italics, below) that I can't answer and I'm hoping someone here may know for sure. This is obviously well before my time.

I have a photo here (from a friend’s Facebook page) of the 66th St. Station of the 9th Ave. El, taken from 65th St., about where Avery Fisher hall would be now (the picture is from 1937).

In this photo, the El had two levels of tracks, and the station had stairs going to both levels, most likely opposite directions of travel. I never knew the 9th Ave. El was like this. Do you know if that was only for a short distance due to width restrictions, or was the whole thing like that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
