The character was clearly autistic, but had some areas of ability far beyond the norm, making him what's commonly known as an idiot savant. Also, autism is a medical diagnosis that covers a pretty broad spectrum, ranging from being unable to read cues and therefore not able to react socially appropriately (something that is noticeable in certain unnamed members of the Subchat community), to complete incapacity to interact with the outside world at all. "Idiot savant" is more of an archaic term to describe certain patterns of behavior that are sometimes found in autistic individuals.subfan |
