It's not a guaranteed way to commit suicide. A police sergeant in the Bronx, under investigation last year, couldn't live with the idea of testifying in court against other cops. He ran up to the 242-Van Cortlandt station of the (1), and grabbed the third rail with BOTH hands. All that did was knock him silly and give him third-degree Burns on both hands. Now he is disfigured for the rest of his life.
