No one in management had yet heard how standardised spare parts could actually save money, let alone having maintenance workers learn a particular breed of equipment and be really good at diagnosis and repair. Part of why Chessie tried to keep the U boats on C&O tracks where parts were in stock at shops and then in early CSX times most of the GEs went south swapped for EMDs north again to collect units where theparts and expertise were. |
