The City decided to build the Concourse line instead. Otherwise, they would have had to either condenm the 2nd Ave el (a la 6th Ave el) or underpin the pillars from 129th St to 23rd Street. Either way, it would have been expensive. But, at least we would have had a 4 track subway under 2nd Ave, unlike this 2 track compromise thing with the stations far apart! |
