The Crosstown line was originally planned as a BMT route leaving Queensborough Plaza on an elevated structure along the same route as the IND was to have been up until Broadway. Then, it was to have follow along several streets until it reached the Franklin Avenue Line, and connecting with it at Fulton Street.

The provisions could be seen at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Queens Boulevard where you might see the steel track support coming out eastward. Credit (or maybe blame) Mayor John Hylan by seizing the route away from the BMT and place it under control as an IND subway route.
