And the scrap dealer can sell them to whomever he chooses. SEPTA was offering the cars for $69,000 and only the Reading THS ponied up at that price to save 9001. Other museums can negotiate whatever deals they want with the scrap dealer which will probably be for less than what SEPTA was offering.

Other scrap dealers have not only sold cars along, but also put them into storage to await future buyers. LETX is probably the best example. The problem with the ex-SEPTA cars is that they aren't HEP compatible so they won't be much use in tourist service which will limit how many get saved.
