If you have read my posts and also checked other sources, you will see that the subway down Pitkin and the takeover of the Fulton St El were supposed to coexist. Under the original plan, the Pitkin subway was to have connected to the LIRR ROW in the area of Aqueduct R T and existing BMT signaling was to be used east (RR south) of the 80 St interlocking on the Fulton St El structure. For whatever reason, subway construction was haled down Pitkin Av and the structure S/O Rocky Blvd redesigned to create Liberty Jct. Records I have, indicate that the decision to build Liberty Jct was made between the original 1948 opening of the A Line to Euclid and 1951 when a B of T report on new subway lines shows what eventually became Liberty Jct. |
