That may well be.There is a tradition of name-changing at the border of the city and Nassau County, at least. Until recently it was Jamaica Avenue on one side of the street and Jericho Tpke on the other at the border; Grand Central Pkwy to NSP; Merrick Blvd to Road. OTOH, I know Northern Blvd. keeps that name deep into Nassau County. Many people in the Town of Babylon c.1970 used to call Montauk Highway / Main Street from Amityville through Babylon Village Merrick Road, but now it only seems to be a smattering of old-timers/ |
