A story that went around the IP crowd was supposed to have occurred in the 19th century when the upstart United Press Syndicate was competed with the Associated Press. The AP suspected the UP was stealing and published a story mentioning a foreign dignitary with a name like "Sihtelot Spueht."Read it backwards. And when Vladimir Nabokov wrote Lolita he figured he would have to have it published under a pen name, but he wanted to stamp his authorship on the work, so he named one of his characters "Vivian Darkbloom." Get it? |
