The 3rd Ave el could have been kept running for another few years, but that would not have hastened the building of the 2nd Ave subway. Like most people here, I wanted a 4 track "regular north-south" subway under 2nd Ave. But, in reality, we will just have to settle for this 2 tracked thing. Let's just hope that it reaches lower Manhattan before we are either dead, wasting away in nursing homes, or in our childrens basement. |
