R40 and R42 front end roll signs had two styles of "J". Some signs had the "short" curl and others had the "full" curl - like an umbrella handle. I never had the pleasure of seeing a Slant R40 on the "J" but I did see many an R40M. There were numerous examples of each style of "J" throughout the R40/R42 fleet.
