PCC's are pretty big and weigh in at 19 tons each. Imagine if they were 70 foot steel interurbans that weigh in at 40 tons each!

Autos, yeah, PCC's will overwhelm them easily, especially considering how cars were were constructed back then. When PCC's clobber immovable objects or each other they still do ok, but won't meet the current transit buffer standards. Take a look at pics of the two Shaker PCC's that head on'd many years ago (there's slides on ebay of the stripped bodies on ebay right now) or when the Muni LRV rear ended the ex-Philly PCC car in SF. I have the newspaper clippings from the Shaker crash still, they were very lucky no one was killed.
