Not as tough as a BMT standard, but still pretty crashworthy. Take Chicago's Green Hornet 7205. On July 17, 1949, it split a switch at State and Root, derailed and wrapped itself around a utility pole. There were only minor injuries and no fatalities. The car was eventaully rebuilt with parts from 7078, which was incinerated the following year when it hit a gasoline truck at 63rd and State. |
