Definitely. But now that I think about it, but there are other dangers. If it's an el and they miss, they might get their foot caught between the ties. And though unlikely, if the platform on the far end is too narrow, they might be moving too fast and keep going right into the active track. So to use an el it would need to be over a concrete part (like where the 'stationhouse' is) with some large obstacle like a bench or map on the opposite side.

With the IRT consideration I thought a weekend at 3rd av on the 6 might have been the 'safest' (in terms of avoiding becoming rail-kill), but I don't know how much warning there is that a train is approaching on the express track. 9th ave is slow going no matter what direction you approach from or on what track.

The only true safe spot for these shenanigans is no longer... Myrtle-Wyckoff middle on the M, over the stationhouse.
