To get around the capacity restrictions of the 8th Ave terminal,the least expensive solution would be to make 6th Ave an alternate terminal. This would require adding a switch west of the 6th Ave station. There are 3 tracks between 6th and 8th Avenues. Access to the center track is only from 8th Ave. Providing access to this track from 6th Ave should not require any structural work to the tunnels.Ccurrent NYCT policies prevent that from being a practical solution. |
