It's easy to say something like that, but it just isn't realistic on a practical level. If you walked up a steep hill (this was at 181 St./Ft. Washington Ave.) with your wife to a subway station entrance and found that it was impossible to get the turnstiles to read your fare card, I don't think you're going to go back upstairs and walk three blocks to another entrance, probably causing you to miss your train. It just isn't reasonable to demand that people do that. Nor does it make sense to say that because this was a city Councilman, he should tow the "party line" and say he thinks people should do that, when he knows it is unreasonable. He is there to represent the people of his district, and I'm glad he is not being a hypocrite about this and is saying what he (and undoubtedly many of his constituents) really think about it.
