" The bus driver in such a situation is an official of the MTA who is allowed to make such a decision. At a station where there is no station agent - just who is going to give that permission? If the MTA personnel puts up signs that the entrance is free (and tapes open the gates) - sometimes done when things are really going badly or for some G.O.'s - then walking in without paying is allowed. Unless that is happening, just swipe your card - pay your fare as usual. Paying fare-beating tickets is not cheap. Mike |
