1. Do the pantographs automatically lower and raise as the trains enter and leave the tunnel? Even at full speed?

Yes, the pantographs are pushed down by the wire to the point where they ride on the bottom of the wire in the reduced clearances of the subway portion of the Blue/Expo Line. The LRVs run on catenary throughout their trip.

2. Is "Los Angeles" the most descriptive front sign they could come up with?

What would you suggest as an alternative which would be any more descriptive? Unlike NYC, Los Angeles' urban subcenters do not identify themselves as being a part of Los Angeles even if they lie within the city or county boundaries. As such Los Angeles suffices to be sufficiently descriptive and a lot easier to understand than '7th and Flower - Metro Center'.
