The problem with terminating the Q at Atlantic is that it funnels all passenger traffic, both for 6th Avenue and Broadway, onto the D, 2, and 4 trains. Given that the D would pass through DeKalb anyway, why not send a Brighton service to assist with the load and ease confusion at Atlantic? By sending the Brighton service into Manhattan, only those who would need the Broadway line south of 14th Street would need to transfer to the 4. As for Prince Street and 23rd through 49th Streets, changing trains won't be necessary, since the Broadway Line station is within walking distance of the 6th Avenue station. That way, Brighton Line passengers have, at most, a two-seat ride to Broadway Line neighborhoods.

As for the service label, Dyre Dan has a point. We've already seen that the R160s have programs for "via 6th Avenue" service, so I don't really mind having the Orange Q coming back for a few nights.

I could also see cutting the Q so that it ends at 57th/6th (keeping through service on the F) instead of Queens Plaza. Anyone who needs the N shuttle would just need to take the 7 at 42nd Street.
