I'd even stick my neck out further & say that in our lifetime, we might even see 3rd rail ripped up north of Yankee Stadium on the Hudson & north of Woodlawn over on the HarlemI wouldn't. Not after Metro-North spent all that money to build more third rail north of White Plains and all, and in spite of what you claim to hear from MTA bureaucrats. The electrics' operating costs are still way lower than the dual-mode trains (as their average speeds are still way higher), and the cost of diesel fuel still remains high—a major factor that'll have them holding on to the electrics.
