When I was there with George Abere in 1962, the cinderblock walls were not there, but as I have mentioned in many posts on the subject, there was loose black earth from the floor to the roof of the tunnels a short distance beyond where the cinder block walls presently are. It seems to indicate the possibility of some backfilling having been done at some point, but how deep the black earth goes is anybody's guess. In any event even if the ciderblock walls were to be removed, anyone wanting to g farther back had better bring a crew with a lot of shovels.
