They're adding a second track between there and Schenectady and will be putting CWR where the bridge is, all the way down to the platforms. All I know is that the bridge is this shy of being condemned, so apparently it's in very bad shape. The rebuild planned is part of the route project between RENS and SCHDY.FWIW, bridges up here have different issues than down along the coast. Hudson is pretty shallow and bridges up here suffer from both ice heaves of the piers as well as high flow rates in spring from the snow melt. Dunn Memorial dropped some road and requires regular closings for repairs, and let's not forget what happened to the Schoharie Creek bridge on the Thruway caused by scouring of the piers. |
