The heavyweight was all Pullman built. Both the prewar and post war lightweight Centuries were pure Pullman Standard until the Sleepercoaches and combination w/ the all coach Pacemaker. The train then became a stainless steel coach section ahead of the two one grey sleeper section. A word or two about Sleepercoaches. The "Slumbercoach" name was a Pullman Company service mark. By 58 when NYC restructured the Century NYC had left Pullman opting to operate sleepers in house. So the first four NYC Sleepercoaches were original 24s-8d Budds identical to B&O/MP/CB&Q cars. All the later cars were Budd 22 roomette "Harbor series first class cars sent back to Budd for reconfiguration ending up as 16s-10d cars. These were easily identified by a seam in the fluting. |
