Posted by Dyre Dan on Sat May 5 08:58:38 2012, in response to Re: iPHOTOS (21): Repair progress - 182-183 Streets and 170 Street stations, posted by Chris R16/R2730 on Fri May 4 17:05:43 2012. 174/175 St. never had the brick-style tiles. 161 St. did, but they have since been replaced, leaving 155 St., 167 St., and 170 St. as the only three stations with the "brick" walls. I've certainly never seen any explanation of why they were used.Another oddity is the plain white-on-black name tablets at 167 St. and 170 St. The other side-platform stations on the line have colored borders around the name tablets, but they also have two streets in the official station names (155th St.-8th Ave., 161st St.-River Ave., 174th-175th St., and 182nd-183rd St.) The pattern seems to have been that stations along the Concourse line with only one street in their names got the colored borders omitted, but that wasn't done on other lines either. |
