Actually, that makes some sense. Although the existence of 76 St is shrouded in a bit of mystery, as I mentioned in several posts on this topic, around the same time that the IND subway was being excavated S/O ENY, Pitkin Av which ended in the vicinity of 76 St was through routed and connected to South Rd which was renamed Pitkin Av east of that point much the same way 6 Av in Manhattan was through routed to Church St during the construction of that portion of the IND in that borough. Since whether or not any subway construction was done in that area, the realignment of the streets and possibly other excavation in the area necessitated by the street reconfiguration such as sewer lines in the area may have attracted city photographers to the location as part of documenting public works projects in general.
