You really think that 12-9's are such a problem that spending hundreds of millions on screen doors (which would still delay service by a thousand cuts even with your fancy Japanese bullshit tech) is justified? The answer is to simply not stop the train when someone gets run over and deal with any residual at the yard with the power washer. Same goes for highway collisions. The #2 priority after dealing with any injured occupants should be cleaning the road of debris to resume normal service. If we're going to compete with China we as a society have to stop being all touchy feely.
