Don't think for one second that the R1/9's were anything in their last days like what you experience when you ride the Holiday Train for example.

They were poorly maintained and beat to sh**. The TA knew they were going to be scrapped, ENY in those days had shoddy maintance, and why spend money and time on cars that were on borrowed time? They were repaired with "bubble gum and glue".

Garbage in (to the barn) and garbage out.
