Both 174 and 175 Streets pass under the Concourse via beautiful arches, without intersecting it. At each end of the 174-175 station, going upstairs takes you only to the Concourse, not to either cross-street. Going down at the south end takes you to 174 St; going down at the north end is no longer possible, but it used to take you to 175 St.That still doesn't explain the dual station name, even when both ends were fully open. They could have chosen one street name and still had both exits, like at most IND stations. |
