This starts to blur the purpose of the color designations of the rail lines and they have double meanings. Need to go to letter designations with color only used for trunk route, not a route name, the NY method:. There aren't enough colors. From Fort Totten, there will be 3 routes: Branch Ave, Huntington, Franconia, all following the same trunk line thru L'Enfant Plaza. Yet 2 are called Yellow and 1 Green. Make one color, call them B, F, and H. Ditto for Orange & Blue. It is the same trunk route between Stadium and Rosslyn, make them the same color, call the 2 Oranges N & V, and the Blue L. For anyone headed to Largo, any Blue will do, but one Orange goes, the other does not. Very confusing. There are 3 routes, use 3 designations. A more logical lettering schema would be the use of the route letters: Yellow Huntington C Yellow Springfield-Franconia J Orange Largo G Orange New Carrollton D Because the Red, Blue, Green and the future Silver lines have no terminals on more then one branch there is no need to attach a letter to those line color.
