Not to be ignored a single family of parts, and and maintenance procedures. One of my tasks in life is replacing obsolete and defective by design circuit breaker panels. Nominally one would think a few strips of bus bar in a steel box would last forever, but some are no longer made thus replacement parts unavailable. As mentioned in another post, I have my grandfather's 1936 production Leica. An outstanding machine, but Kodak is essentially dead, and we might well take bets on Fuji--seen much Agfachrome recently? The Panasonic I chose (uses my Leica mount glass) will be so obsolete in 5 years that durability beyond a decade is a waste. Given the longevity of SS, it would be useful if the bodies could be salvaged for component replacement as the hardware evolves. |
